The best team won the match and the tournament. Spain outplayed Germany in the final, despite the slender nature of the scoreline, and although there were a number of strong teams here and a great many fine players, no group passed it quite like the champions. Gegen eine bärenstarke spanische Mannschaft verliert Deutschland das Finale in Wien. Fernando Torres erzielte nach gut einer halben Stunde das entscheidende Tor für die Iberer. Die Elf von Bundestrainer Joachim Löw fand über die gesamte Spielzeit nicht die Mittel, den spanischen Abwehrverbund zu knacken und Keeper Casillas ernsthaft zu gefährden.

¡Viva el fútbol! Con mucha más claridad que el catenaccio de Lippi en Alemania 2006, con jugadores de buen pie, con un brasileño nacionalizado (el primer sudamericano campeón de Euro), Senna con el que es quizás el mejor arquero del mundo, Casillas con Xavi e Iniesta enamorando a Cataluña de España, algo más que complicado en una región con tendencia autonómica. A Xavi hay que anotarle una asistencia magistral, a Fernando Torres, en el 1-0. Y no se olviden de Cesc.

La meilleure équipe du tournoi s'est adjugé la Coupe et la dernière marche a été tout aussi belle que les cinq qui lui ont permis d'être aujourd'hui sur le toit de l'Europe. Les finales des grandes compétitions ont l'habitude d'être fermées. Celle-ci a été vivante, rythmée, intense. De bout en bout. Le seul regret aura été de n'avoir pas vu plus de buts alors qu'il y avait de la place. La faute, sans doute, aux Espagnols, qui n'ont jamais su concrétiser leurs multiples occasions.
